How do you include all cellular fees in the cost of the device?
We have long term contracts with our cellular providers which grant us enough certainty to bundle 5 years of data costs with the cost of the hardware.
Will you ever start charging service fees or subscription fees?
All cellular stations include 5 years of cellular connectivity and data storage costs. After 5 years, Altrac may contact you to pay for additional cellular data. Unfortunately we do not know what data costs will be in 5 years, so it is too risky for us to cellular connectivity past 5 years.
Additionally, we may charge an (optional) yearly fee for new tools we build on top of your existing sensors. For example, we could offer access to disease modeling or growing degree day information based on your temperature data for a yearly fee.
What networks does your device connect to?
In the USA, our cellular modem works with LTE networks on AT&T and T-mobile. We also have access to networks in 200 other countries (LTE and 2G/3G). Please contact us directly if you have a question about a specific countries network.
What happens when 2G/3G service goes away for my old device?
Over the lifetime of the device there will be several network transitions, so we designed the cellular chip to be easily replaceable. If 2G/3G service is removed in your area, contact us directly to purchase a new cellular chip. Chips cost approximately $100.
